Perspective
The appointment of Safety Officers remains a legal mandate in certain Indian industries. Recognizing the crucial role of safety, many organizations today proactively appoint Safety Officers and Safety Engineers, even beyond statutory requirements.
To meet the growing demand for competent safety professionals, the National Safety Council (NSC) initiated the National Safety Aptitude Test (NSAT) in 2022. The examination assists industries in screening and identifying capable safety officers, engineers, and safety professionals.
In modern organizations, safety is no longer confined to safety officers alone — it is also a line management responsibility. Accordingly, industries are training line managers in safety and involving them in Safety Management Systems. NSAT helps assess how well line managers and professionals are versed in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
Since 2023, NSAT has been extended to cover professionals working in the Oil & Gas and Construction sectors.
